Working Schedule

The work on the Istanbul Green Space Management System Strategy Document started in December 2021. The work schedule is as follows.

Working Purpose

Open and green spaces in urban spaces are a vital necessity and they are physical spaces that provide significant contributions to a city in terms of ecological, economic, social, socio-cultural, psychological, and aesthetic aspects. They play an important role in the improvement of the quality of urban life, especially with their features by regulating the urban micro-climate, integrating it with nature, providing recreational opportunities, allowing the citizens to socialize together and use them for recreational purposes, determining the spatial balance of mass-space, etc. Researches conducted throughout Istanbul reveal that the amount of open and green space per person is below the 15 m² standards determined in the Spatial Plans Construction Regulation, that the values in the city differ and cannot form a functional structure. The pandemic conditions that have emerged in recent years have further increased the need for open and green spaces.

This work aims to plan open and green spaces in a systematic way throughout the city and in a way that puts the principle of accessibility in the center, considering open spaces such as agriculture, forests, lakes, and ponds in the city, to ensure their adequacy at the scale of neighborhoods, districts and cities, healthy and high-quality urban spaces and to improve the quality of life by creating a quality urban environment.
